With a combined installed capacity of 50MWp, the Black Peak and neighbouring Munceys solar farms, in Cambridgeshire, demonstrate Lightsource’s ambition and technical skills.
The sites cover 260 acres and are capable of powering more than 16,000 homes.
As part of the project Lightsource also construcedt its first 132kv substation, one of the first private substations to be built in the UK. Construction of the substation began in October 2014 and the site began exporting to the grid on March 23rd 2015.
Lightsource seeks to go above and beyond the generation of clean, renewable energy and believes it has a responsibility to manage the land in its portfolio to the benefit of all. Working alongside ecologists, the RSPB and local wildlife groups, Lightsource was able to feed this specialist knowledge directly into a bespoke Biodiversity Management Plan which will truly benefit local species – providing real long-term benefit and enhancing the surrounding environment for years to come.
